Summer School Courses

During the months of July and August we welcome both individual students and groups for a summer learning experience in Edinburgh, with weekly start dates and an enhanced social programme to make the most of everything the city has to offer, including enjoying Edinburgh the festival city in August.

Edinburgh College welcomes students aged 16 and older to enrol in our English Language Summer School courses. Our engaging English Language lessons are taught in small classes, with a maximum of 15 students per class, so that students receive personalised language support in a supportive classroom environment.

Choose from either 15 or 20 hours of tuition per week, and study for a minimum of 2 weeks.

  • General English (15 hours per week)

  • Intensive English (20 hours per week of General English + Intensive English Modules)

  • Summer School Social Programme

Before arriving at Edinburgh College you will complete a level test so you can join a class with students of a similar level. You will have opportunities during your course to give feedback and input on what you would like to do with your teacher and our Summer School Director.

All English Language students follow our General English course (15 hours per week).

Our engaging General English syllabus focuses on all the skills you need to improve your English. Our communicative lessons work on your speaking, listening, reading, and writing as well as activating and extending your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. You will improve your communication skills, functional language, and pronunciation. Our aim is to help you feel more confident when using English and to motivate you to continue your progress after Summer School.

Increase your programme to 20 hours per week by adding our Intensive English modules (5 hours per week).

Intensive English modules include:

  • IELTS Preparation (B1+)

  • Academic Writing for Higher Education (C1+)

  • English and UK Culture (A2-B1)

  • English for Business (A2-B1)

  • English for Computing (A2-B1)

  • English for Tourism (A1-B1)

  • Presentation Skills (A2-B1)

Modules are subject to availability and will run according to student demand.

Join our Summer School Social Programme to make the most of your time with us - get to know your classmates better and explore Edinburgh and Scotland’s rich history and culture with our knowledgeable activity leaders.

  • Visit places of historical and cultural importance in and around the city.

  • Experience Edinburgh’s vibrant entertainment scene.

  • Two afternoon activities, one evening activity and one full-day Saturday excursion per week.

Most of all I enjoyed the environment during the classes. Everyone was working hard and at the same time it was so interesting to do teacher’s tasks. I am very happy that I have had such a wonderful experience in this Summer School. I’m really looking forward to return here again next year.

My favourite thing about Summer School was getting to know many new people from all over the world and learning new things about foreign cultures.
