Colombia - ELT Teacher Training – British Council

In November 2018, Edinburgh College was selected by the British Council to deliver a 2-week teaching methodology course for 20 teachers from across Colombia.

The immersive course explored ideas, techniques and current trends in teaching English and enabled participants to reflect on their own practice and develop their skills in understanding learners, managing the lesson, managing resources and using inclusive practices.

As part of their programme, the group also visited a local secondary school, where they were given a tour of the premises, an opportunity to observe classes, and the chance to talk to teachers and management about the Scottish education system and to discuss how different teaching strategies are used in Scotland and Colombia.

During their time at Edinburgh College, participants took part in a wide range of social and cultural activities within Edinburgh and Scotland, including visits to Edinburgh Castle and the National Museum. These activities were incorporated into their programme and had learning objectives that linked to what participants were learning in the classroom.

The teacher was very good and did her best to present the program's content in a clear way. The international team did their best to make us feel comfortable and welcome in the country. The accommodation was good, and our host was so nice. The after-school activities were really interesting.

My host family was great with us. They were respectful, and they really made us feel part of the family. The food was brilliant, and the facilities were as well.
