Ghana – Strengthening Entrepreneurial Mindsets – British Council Going Global Partnership
In June 2025, Edinburgh College and Sunyani Technical University (STU) in Ghana successfully concluded a transformative partnership project under the British Council’s Going Global Partnerships programme. The initiative focused on embedding entrepreneurialism at an institutional level, aiming to foster a culture of entrepreneurial thinking across academic leadership and curriculum design.
The programme concentrated on developing the soft skills essential to a strong entrepreneurial mindset. By engaging faculty heads and academic staff responsible for curriculum development, the project enabled the dissemination of key entrepreneurial principles throughout STU’s academic community.
A pivotal scoping visit to Sunyani in June 2024 allowed Edinburgh College’s Head of School for Professional Learning and Qualifications and International TVET, and the Curriculum Team Manager for Professional Learning and Qualifications, to observe classroom practices, engage with academic leaders, and hold focus groups with students and employers. Insights from this visit informed the creation of a fourteen-point action plan and a comprehensive electronic toolkit designed to support the integration of entrepreneurial skills into STU’s curriculum.
In September 2024, four STU delegates visited Edinburgh College to deepen the collaboration. They participated in classroom observations, student and staff discussions, and roundtable sessions focused on embedding employability and entrepreneurial skills into teaching and learning.
The project concluded in May 2025 with Edinburgh College and the STU partners presenting the work at a Dissemination Event in Accra, hosted by the British Council’s Higher Education and TVET team. This event brought together stakeholders from across the education sector to share insights and assess the partnership's impact.
This collaboration marked a significant step in fostering sustainable, entrepreneurial education practices and highlighted the power of international partnerships in shaping future-ready institutions.
