What is Clearing?

What is clearing?

Clearing is the process through which you can apply to courses that still have available places.
If a course at college still has spots available, this is another opportunity for students to apply to study.

Reasons you might apply to a course through clearing

  • The original application deadline has passed, and you have decided you want to apply to study
  • You didn’t meet the requirements for the course you originally applied for
  • You didn’t receive any offers after the first application deadline
  • You have changed your mind about the course you were planning to study

How does clearing work?

Clearing can work in a few different ways, depending on your situation. If you have not applied to a course, have not met your entry requirements, or are looking to switch from one Edinburgh College course to another through clearing, all of this can be done by contacting our team directly.

If you have confirmed a place at another college or university and would like to apply for a place at Edinburgh College instead, you will need to contact your original choice to ask that they release you.

For all of these options, the best thing to do is to contact us so that we can help guide you through the steps you need to take. Call our clearing hotline on 0131 297 8500 or email us directly at clearing@edinburghcollege.ac.uk.

How do I apply to clearing?

If you are interested in applying for a course at Edinburgh College through clearing, please call our clearing helpline on 0131 297 8500, or email us at clearing@edinburghcollege.ac.uk, where you can discuss your application with a member of our team.
You can also apply on our website as normal. View all courses here.

When does clearing open?

Clearing officially opens on 9 August. After this, you can apply for a course through clearing at Edinburgh College.

You can call our course clearing helpline on 0131 297 8500 or email the team at clearing@edinburghcollege.ac.uk to talk through your application with us.

When will I find out if I have gotten into a course through clearing?

Once you have discussed your application with one of our advisors, they can advise you on how long your application will take to process depending on the volume of enquiries they are receiving.

Where can I find which courses have places for clearing?

You can view clearing courses here on our website. If you would like to discuss any of these courses with a member of the team to find out more information and understand if they would be suitable for you, call our course clearing helpline on 0131 297 8500 or email clearing@edinburghcollege.ac.uk.

Can I swap from one course to another through clearing?

You can. You will need to discuss this with the college or university you had applied for and ask to be released. It is a good idea to do this as soon as possible as this can take some time to process.

Once you have been released from your original course, you can apply to a new course through clearing following exam results day on 9 August.

Can I speak to someone from Edinburgh College about my clearing application?

Yes, you can call our course clearing helpline on 0131 297 8500 to discuss your application with one of our advisors. If you would prefer to email our team with your questions, you can do so using clearing@edinburghcollege.ac.uk.
