This exciting 18-week course will provide you with a basic skill set and understanding of the beauty industry
The course is suited to individuals who wish to learn a variety of skills and techniques within the beauty sector. The course is a gentle introduction to the industry and covers a variety of treatments and services currently popular in the Beauty industry. You will learn basic skills in eye treatments, manicure, and depilation, as well as build customer service skills in client care and reception duties.
Successful completion of semester 1 allows candidates to then progress on to semester 2, Level 4 introduction to beauty skills (progressors)
Training at Edinburgh College will enhance your employability prospects as we have exceptional facilities and highly qualified lecturers. You will work in our salons or studios, providing a realistic industry environment and gaining essential practical experience working on paying clients with high-end product companies such as Dermalogica
This training will give you valuable practical experience and is a stepping stone towards further beauty courses, with the intention of developing skills suitable for employment in the industry

There is an additional cost for course kits, uniforms and books, which must be purchased before starting the course. The bursary may cover this

Semester 2 (after successful completion of semester 1)
- Facial skin care treatment
- Product knowledge
- Back, neck, and shoulder massage
- Basic make-up application
- Related anatomy and physiology
- Event planning
Placement information
- There is no work placement required for this course; however, you will be working with clients in our realistic employability salons and studios.
How the course is assessed
- You will be assessed on your occupational competence working with peers and clients.
- The theoretical aspects of the course are carried out online and on campus.
- Variation of multiple-choice and short open-book written assignments.

Entry requirements
- There are no formal education requirements, but you must be 16 years of age or older by the course start date.
Information on Tests / Auditions / Interview Requirements
- As part of the course application, you will be invited to attend an information session with our lecturing team to hear about the course in person. With a short one-to-one discussion with a member of the teaching staff,
- The formal interview has a scoring criterion based on presentation and communication skills at the interview.
