College Helps Scott Find New Career Direction
Before coming to College, Tranent resident Scott Fairgrieve had to leave his previous job as a field service technician due to a back injury which meant he could longer fulfil the role he had held for six years.
Concerned about his own and his family’s future, Scott decided Edinburgh College was the place to help him gain the qualifications he needed for a change of career.
Following three years of study, Scott recently graduated with a HND in Human Resource Management, was awarded the Chair’s Award for Academic Excellence in Tourism, Hospitality and Business, and has already started working as a HR Administrator for NHS Education for Scotland.
Scott said: “Returning to education with three children under 10 years old and a mortgage seemed crazy yet, it was the best option I had.
“The first of my three years at College was challenging for me and my family but gradually the light at the end of the tunnel got brighter. Each small success at College motivated me to continue to work harder.
“The best thing about studying at Edinburgh College was the culture and subsequently the people. The course and the teaching were centred on the students, which made learning effective and enjoyable. It created a cohesive team-like environment in which I made many friends.”
Following Graduation, Scott is continuing to study at Edinburgh College, completing the CIPD Level course to allow him to progress within Human Resource Management with the NHS.
