Kacey Plans for a Career in Events
Eighteen-year-old Kacey Lauder has her sights set on a career in the events industry, and she’s got off to the best start after being named the Edinburgh College Schools College Partnership (SCP) Events Award winner for 2020.
We caught up with Kacey, who came to us from Queensferry High School as part of her SCP, about her College experience to date and her plans for the future.
“I feel very honoured and proud to be recognised at Prize Giving 2020, as I do feel that I did put my all into this college course and it does feel good to receive some appreciation for all the hard work that I put in.
I chose to study at Edinburgh College because I had heard many good things about the lecturers and the wide variety of courses that they offer at the college. I knew that being taught by people who have experienced the running of many events would open up so many opportunities for me and that is why this course caught my eye.
The opportunities that the course has given me has to have been the best thing. In my year of studying I was able to plan an event, and also participate in many events that received good reviews for me and my peers.
There have been challenges, one of the ones for me and probably most people would have to be completing all my portfolio work at home and on time. As I am still working, this made it a little extra difficult, but I was able to overcome this challenge as my lecturers were very understanding and answered any questions that I had.
I am most proud of gaining full marks in both my portfolios that I submitted, as I put a lot of time and effort into them.
Looking ahead, after completing this course, I applied for HND Events Management at Edinburgh College at Sighthill and received an unconditional offer meaning I will be studying there for two years as of August.
After this I hope to apply to university to receive my degree which will hopefully kick start my career in becoming an Events Manager and hopefully having my own business one day.”
Kacey has described her Edinburgh College experience to date as fascinating, inspiring and enjoyable.
