Hazel Wins the SCP Excellence in Hospitality Award

Hazel Royall came to Edinburgh College in term 2019/20 as part of a Schools College Partnership (SCP) programme in Hospitality. SCP courses see pupils come to College campuses from regional schools twice per week to learn new skills.

Hazel has given the SCP Excellence in Hospitality Award after impressing our lecturers throughout her time learning at College. Hazel told us about her experience of College so far.

How do you feel about being recognised at Prize Giving?

I feel rather surprised that I got recognised for Prize Giving

What has been the best thing so far about studying at Edinburgh College? Any highlights?

The best thing about studying at College so far in my opinion is the more relaxed environment than the traditional classroom.

Have you faced any challenges, either before starting or during your studies? How did you overcome them?

I experimented out of my comfort zone learning different techniques from different cultures

If you could give one piece of advice to a student starting at the College now, what would it be?

Don’t overthink. Survey what’s happening around you, then go from there.

What are your plans for the future? Are you going on to further study after college or into employment? What is your end goal?

I’m not sure what my plans for the future are, however, I do plan on going into further studies after College.

What are you most proud of that you have achieved while studying at Edinburgh College?

Throughout my time at College, I think I’m most proud of the fact that even though I didn’t cook with food that contained gluten we found different ways to cook without it with different degrees of success.

Describe your Edinburgh College experience in three words.

Team, expressive, motivating.
